Watching the rise of Kumail Nanjiani over the last decade or so has been fascinating for many South Asian American comedy fans (your friendly correspondents very much included.)

From his start as a comic that quickly became a favorite of late night hosts, to his Oscar-nominated screenplay for his semi-autobiographical film “The Big Sick” (which we reviewed back in 2017), Nanjiani's rise to fame has been both striking and memorable. Yet until now, he had never quite ventured into the world of drama.
